How to Get to the Wagah Border
To reach the Wagah Border, we booked a tuk-tuk through our hostel in Amritsar. Nine of us squeezed into a single vehicle for the one-hour ride to the border’s parking lot. The journey itself was an experience, as we navigated through the bustling streets of Amritsar, passing by markets, street vendors, and the lively chaos that defines Indian roadways. The ride, though a bit cramped, was filled with laughter and excitement as we anticipated the spectacle ahead.
The Exciting Flag-Lowering Ceremony

Children were seen waving their tiny flags excitedly, while groups of friends and families posed for photos to capture the moment. Foreign visitors had the advantage of using the VIP lane by showing their passports, which allowed them to bypass the long queues and enter the venue quickly. The VIP section had front-row seats with the best view for photos, making the experience even more special. Before the official ceremony started, the host invited female spectators to dance in an open space while the audience clapped and cheered. Women from different backgrounds and nationalities joined in, swaying to the beats of lively Bollywood music. The energy was incredible! The excitement was contagious, with people in the stands clapping along to the rhythm. (This was a special privilege for women, as the crowd was mostly men.)
